Rifaximin is a prescription antibiotic that acts primarily in the gastrointestinal tract and is used for certain bacterial-related intestinal conditions. It belongs to the rifamycin class of antibiotics and works by interfering with bacterial RNA synthesis, thereby inhibiting the growth of susceptible bacteria. Because Rifaximin is minimally absorbed into the bloodstream, its antibacterial activity is concentrated mainly within the intestine. Depending on the prescribed indication, Rifaximin may be used for traveler's diarrhea caused by susceptible strains of certain bacteria and for reducing the risk of recurrence of hepatic encephalopathy in appropriate patients. In some regions, doctors may prescribe Rifaximin for other gastrointestinal conditions based on clinical assessment and local treatment guidelines. It is important to note that Rifaximin is not appropriate for every type of diarrhea or intestinal infection, and it should not be used without medical advice.
कैसे उपयोग करें
Take only as prescribed: Use Rifaximin strictly according to the dose, frequency, and duration recommended by your doctor. The dosage and treatment duration can vary depending on the condition being treated. Swallow with water: Take the tablet with a glass of water. Swallow it whole and do not crush, chew, or break it unless your healthcare professional specifically instructs you to do so. With or without food: Rifaximin can generally be taken with or without food. Follow the instructions provided by your doctor or on the medicine label for the best results. Maintain regular timing: Take each dose at the recommended intervals. Taking the medicine at approximately the same times each day can help maintain consistent treatment and improve adherence. Complete the prescribed course: If Rifaximin has been prescribed for a bacterial intestinal infection, complete the full course as directed, even if symptoms improve earlier. Do not stop treatment without consulting your doctor. For diarrhea: Rifaximin should only be used for diarrhea when the underlying cause and appropriate treatment have been assessed. Seek medical advice if diarrhea is accompanied by fever, blood in the stool, or worsening symptoms. Missed dose: If you forget a dose, take it when you remember unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Do not take two doses together to compensate for a missed dose. Hepatic encephalopathy: If prescribed to reduce the recurrence of hepatic encephalopathy, take Rifaximin regularly as directed. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without consulting your healthcare professional. Inform your doctor: Tell your doctor about liver disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies, and all other medicines or supplements you are taking.
