Thyroxine Sodium 25 mcg is a thyroid hormone replacement medicine containing levothyroxine sodium, a synthetic version of thyroxine (T4), which is normally produced by the thyroid gland. Doctors commonly prescribe levothyroxine to treat hypothyroidism, a condition that occurs when the body does not produce enough thyroid hormone. How does it work? Levothyroxine replaces deficient thyroid hormone and supports normal metabolic activity, energy utilisation, and other essential physiological functions. When the prescribed dose is appropriate, treatment can help manage hypothyroidism-related symptoms such as fatigue, cold intolerance, and sluggishness. Key product information: Active ingredient: Levothyroxine sodium (thyroxine sodium). Strength: 25 micrograms (mcg). Main indication: Thyroid hormone replacement for hypothyroidism. Dosage: Individualised according to thyroid function tests, age, body weight, medical history, and treatment response. Monitoring: TSH and, when indicated, other thyroid function tests help assess whether the dose is appropriate. Thyroxine Sodium 25 mcg may be prescribed as a starting dose or for dose adjustment in selected patients. It is not intended for weight loss and should not be used for that purpose in people with normal thyroid function.
कैसे उपयोग करें
Take it on an empty stomach: Levothyroxine is generally taken in the morning with a full glass of water, 30–60 minutes before breakfast. Follow your doctor's instructions if another schedule has been recommended. Maintain a regular routine: Take the medicine at the same time every day to help maintain consistent thyroid hormone levels. Separate interacting products: Calcium supplements, iron supplements, and certain antacids can reduce levothyroxine absorption. A separation of at least four hours is generally recommended for calcium and iron supplements. Follow your prescribed dose: Do not increase, reduce, or discontinue the medicine without consulting your doctor. Attend follow-up appointments: Your doctor may request TSH and other thyroid function tests to assess your response. Testing is commonly repeated several weeks after starting treatment or changing the dose. Manage missed doses carefully: Follow the advice provided by your doctor or pharmacist. Do not take extra doses to compensate without professional guidance. Discuss other medicines: Tell your healthcare professional about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, vitamins, and supplements you take. Store properly: Follow the packaging instructions and protect the medicine from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight as directed by the manufacturer.
