Medicine information
Uses & overview
Aripiprazole 10 mg is an atypical antipsychotic medicine prescribed for the treatment of specific psychiatric conditions. It is commonly used to manage schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder and may also be prescribed alongside antidepressants for major depressive disorder in adults. Depending on the patient's condition and treatment plan, healthcare professionals may recommend it for other approved indications. Aripiprazole works as a partial agonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and as an antagonist at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. This activity helps regulate neurotransmitter signalling in the brain, which can support improvements in symptoms such as disturbed thinking, mood changes, and certain behavioural symptoms. The response to treatment varies between individuals, and the medicine should be taken under medical supervision. Common side effects can include restlessness, nausea, dizziness, headache, sleepiness, or difficulty sleeping. Some patients may experience akathisia, an uncomfortable feeling of inner restlessness. Aripiprazole may also cause changes in blood sugar, cholesterol, body weight, or impulse control. Regular follow-up appointments help your doctor assess its effectiveness and monitor potential adverse effects. Do not adjust the dose, share this medicine with another person, or discontinue it without medical guidance. Seek urgent medical attention for severe allergic reactions, high fever with muscle stiffness and confusion, or other serious symptoms.
How to use
1. Take as prescribed: Use Aripiprazole 10 mg only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. The dose and treatment duration depend on your diagnosis, response, and medical history. 2. Follow a consistent schedule: Take the tablet at the time recommended by your doctor. It can generally be taken with or without food unless your product instructions specify otherwise. 3. Swallow as directed: Take the tablet with water. Do not crush or alter it unless your pharmacist confirms that doing so is appropriate for your specific formulation. 4. Do not change the dose yourself: Never increase, decrease, or repeat a dose without medical advice, even if symptoms persist or improve. 5. Manage a missed dose carefully: Take the missed dose when remembered unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Do not take two doses together to compensate. 6. Inform your doctor about other medicines: Report all prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, and supplements you use because interactions may affect aripiprazole levels or side effects. 7. Attend follow-up appointments: Your healthcare professional may monitor mood, behaviour, weight, blood glucose, cholesterol, and movement-related symptoms during treatment. 8. Do not stop suddenly: Contact your doctor before discontinuing treatment, as symptoms may return or worsen.
