Uses & overview
Brivaracetam 75 mg is a prescription antiepileptic medicine used to manage partial-onset seizures, also known as focal seizures, in patients with epilepsy. These seizures originate in a specific area of the brain and may occur with or without changes in awareness. Brivaracetam helps control seizure activity and may be prescribed according to the patient's diagnosis, clinical response, and the applicable product information. Brivaracetam works by binding to synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A), a protein involved in regulating neurotransmitter release in the brain. This mechanism helps reduce abnormal electrical activity associated with seizures. The 75 mg strength may be prescribed as part of an individualised treatment plan, depending on the patient's needs and the treating specialist's recommendations. Common side effects may include dizziness, sleepiness, fatigue, nausea, and impaired coordination. Some patients may also experience irritability, aggression, depression, or other behavioural changes. Contact your doctor if these symptoms develop or persist. Seek urgent medical assistance for severe allergic reactions or thoughts of self-harm.
How to use
1. Take only as prescribed: Use Brivaracetam 75 mg under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. Your prescribed dose depends on your condition, age, medical history, and other medicines. 2. Follow your dosing schedule: Take the medicine at the times recommended by your doctor. Brivaracetam is commonly prescribed twice daily, but you should follow your individual prescription. 3. Take the tablet correctly: Swallow the tablet with water. It can generally be taken with or without food unless your product instructions specify otherwise. 4. Do not adjust the dose yourself: Never increase, decrease, or repeat a dose without medical advice, even if seizures continue or your symptoms improve. 5. Handle missed doses carefully: If you miss a dose, follow your doctor's or pharmacist's advice. Do not take two doses together to compensate. 6. Avoid abrupt discontinuation: Stopping Brivaracetam suddenly may worsen seizure control. Consult your doctor before making any treatment changes. 7. Monitor side effects: Report persistent dizziness, excessive sleepiness, unusual irritability, depression, or other significant behavioural changes to your healthcare professional. 8. Attend follow-up appointments: Regular medical reviews help assess seizure control, side effects, and the need for treatment adjustments.
