Medicine information
Uses & overview
Telmisartan 40 mg and Cilnidipine 10 mg is a prescription combination used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) when treatment with both medicines is considered appropriate. It contains two active ingredients that work through different mechanisms to help control blood pressure and support cardiovascular health. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents angiotensin II from narrowing blood vessels. Cilnidipine is a calcium channel blocker that reduces calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle cells, helping blood vessels relax. Together, these medicines help improve blood flow and lower pressure within the blood vessels. Effective blood pressure management may reduce the risk of complications associated with uncontrolled hypertension. Doctors may prescribe Telmisartan 40 mg and Cilnidipine 10 mg when one medicine alone does not adequately control blood pressure or when combination treatment is appropriate. Treatment may also include regular exercise, a balanced diet, reduced salt intake, and other lifestyle changes recommended by your healthcare professional.
How to use
1. Follow your doctor's prescription: Take the medicine in the exact strength and dosage recommended by your healthcare professional. Your treatment plan depends on your blood pressure, medical history, and response to treatment. 2. Take it regularly: This combination is commonly prescribed once daily, but you should follow the specific schedule on your prescription. Taking it at the same time each day can help you maintain a consistent routine. 3. Swallow with water: Take the tablet with a glass of water. Follow the instructions supplied with your specific product, and do not crush or split the tablet unless your pharmacist confirms that doing so is appropriate. 4. Follow food instructions: Take the medicine according to the package leaflet and your doctor's advice. Establishing a regular daily routine can help you remember your dose. 5. Manage missed doses carefully: If you forget a dose, follow the patient leaflet or ask your pharmacist for guidance. Do not take two doses together to compensate for a missed tablet. 6. Monitor blood pressure: Check your blood pressure as recommended by your healthcare professional. Report persistent dizziness, faintness, or unusually low readings. 7. Discuss other medicines: Inform your doctor about potassium supplements, potassium-containing salt substitutes, diuretics, anti-inflammatory painkillers, and other blood pressure medicines. Certain combinations may affect kidney function, potassium levels, or blood pressure. 8. Recognize possible side effects: Dizziness, headache, flushing, or ankle swelling may occur. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist, and obtain urgent medical care for facial swelling, breathing difficulties, or fainting. 9. Attend follow-up appointments: Your doctor may monitor kidney function, potassium levels, and blood pressure to assess your response to treatment and determine whether adjustments are needed. 10. Continue treatment as directed: High blood pressure may not cause noticeable symptoms. Do not stop taking the medicine simply because you feel well; consult your doctor before changing your treatment.
