Medicine information
Uses & overview
Travoprost Eye Drops are prescription ophthalmic medicine used to lower elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Travoprost belongs to a class of medicines called prostaglandin analogues. It works primarily by increasing the drainage of aqueous humor, the fluid inside the eye, which helps reduce pressure within the eye. Maintaining appropriate eye pressure is important because persistently elevated IOP can damage the optic nerve and may contribute to progressive vision loss.
How to use
Travoprost Eye Drops should be used exactly as prescribed by your ophthalmologist. They are commonly used once daily to lower increased pressure inside the eye in conditions such as open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Consistent use is important for maintaining the desired eye-pressure control. Wash your hands: Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before applying the eye drops. Check the bottle: Confirm the medicine name, strength, expiry date, and bottle condition. Do not use the product if the container is damaged. Prepare the bottle: Remove the cap carefully without touching the dropper tip. Position yourself: Tilt your head backward or lie down comfortably and look upward. Create an eye pocket: Gently pull the lower eyelid downward to form a small pocket. Apply the prescribed dose: Hold the bottle close to the eye without allowing the dropper tip to touch your eye, eyelashes, eyelids, or surrounding skin. Instill the prescribed number of drops. Close your eye: Gently close your eye after application. Avoid rubbing or squeezing your eyelids. Reduce drainage: If advised by your ophthalmologist, gently close your eyes and apply light pressure near the inner corner of the eye for about one minute. This may reduce drainage of the medicine through the tear duct. Prevent contamination: Replace the cap securely after use and keep the dropper tip clean. Do not share the bottle with another person. Follow the schedule: Travoprost is commonly administered once daily, often in the evening, but follow the exact schedule prescribed for you. Do not use it more frequently than recommended.
