Uses & overview
Duloxetine is a prescription antidepressant belonging to the serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) class. It is commonly prescribed for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Depending on the approved product indications and the patient's clinical assessment, it may also be used to manage diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and certain types of chronic musculoskeletal pain. Duloxetine works by increasing the availability of serotonin and norepinephrine, chemical messengers involved in mood regulation and pain processing. Treatment may help improve emotional symptoms and reduce certain types of persistent pain. The appropriate dosage, formulation, and duration of treatment depend on the patient's diagnosis, medical history, response to therapy, and other medicines being taken.
How to use
Follow Your Doctor's Prescription: Take Duloxetine exactly as prescribed. Do not increase, reduce, or change your dosage without medical advice. Take at the Recommended Time: Take the medicine at the same time each day to maintain a consistent treatment routine. Follow Food Instructions: Duloxetine delayed-release capsules can generally be taken with or without food. Follow the instructions supplied with your specific formulation. Swallow Capsules Whole: Swallow the capsule with water. Do not crush or chew delayed-release capsules, as this may affect how the medicine is released. Missed Dose: If you forget a dose, take it when you remember unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Do not take two doses together. Avoid Alcohol: Alcohol may increase drowsiness and can raise the risk of liver injury when combined with Duloxetine. Discuss alcohol consumption with your doctor. Use Caution While Driving: Duloxetine may cause dizziness, sleepiness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving if you experience these effects. Inform Your Doctor About Other Medicines: Tell your healthcare professional about all medicines and supplements you take, particularly other antidepressants and medicines that may interact with Duloxetine.
