Medicine information
Uses & overview
Etodolac PR (400mg) tablet contains etodolac, an NSAID that helps reduce pain and inflammation. It may be prescribed for inflammatory and painful musculoskeletal conditions, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other conditions where inflammation contributes to discomfort and restricted movement. The PR or prolonged-release formulation is designed to release the medicine gradually, helping provide sustained symptom control as directed by a healthcare professional. Etodolac works mainly by reducing the formation of prostaglandins, chemical substances that contribute to pain, swelling, and inflammation. By lowering these inflammatory mediators, the medicine can help improve comfort and mobility in appropriate patients. It is important to understand that Etodolac PR 400mg treats symptoms and inflammation but does not cure the underlying cause of arthritis. Etodolac may cause stomach-related side effects such as indigestion, nausea, abdominal discomfort, or heartburn. NSAIDs can also increase the risk of stomach ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney problems, fluid retention, and cardiovascular complications, particularly with prolonged use or in people with certain risk factors. Therefore, use the lowest effective dose for the shortest appropriate duration as advised by your doctor. Inform your healthcare professional about other medicines, allergies, stomach ulcers, kidney disease, liver problems, heart disease, high blood pressure, or previous reactions to NSAIDs before starting treatment.
How to use
Take Etodolac PR (400mg) tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change the dose or frequency without medical advice. Swallow the tablet whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush, chew, split, or dissolve the prolonged-release tablet unless your doctor or pharmacist specifically tells you otherwise. It is generally preferable to take etodolac with or after food if it causes stomach discomfort. Follow the specific instructions provided with your prescription. Try to take each dose at approximately the same time every day to maintain consistent medicine levels and support effective symptom control. Do not take more than the prescribed amount to obtain faster pain relief. Higher doses can increase the risk of serious NSAID-related side effects. If you forget a dose, take it when you remember unless it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose. Do not double the next dose to compensate. Avoid taking additional NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen, or aspirin for pain, unless your healthcare professional has specifically advised you to do so. Tell your doctor about blood thinners, corticosteroids, blood-pressure medicines, diuretics, lithium, methotrexate, or other medicines you regularly take because interactions may occur. If you develop severe stomach pain, black stools, vomiting blood, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, chest pain, or a serious skin reaction, seek urgent medical attention. Continue treatment only for the duration recommended by your healthcare professional. Long-term NSAID treatment may require periodic monitoring depending on your age, medical history, and other medicines. Keep the medicine stored according to the product label and away from excessive heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Etodolac PR 400mg should be used as part of an appropriate treatment plan and should not be considered a substitute for medical evaluation of persistent or worsening pain.
