Medicine information
Uses & overview
Indomethacin Capsules IP 25mg contain indomethacin, a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the management of pain and inflammation in several musculoskeletal and inflammatory conditions. It may be prescribed for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gout, and other painful inflammatory disorders, depending on the patient's medical condition and doctor's assessment. Indomethacin works primarily by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes involved in the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins contribute to pain, swelling, inflammation, and fever. By reducing their formation, indomethacin can help decrease inflammation and provide symptomatic relief from pain and stiffness. Indomethacin is a prescription medicine and is not suitable for everyone. NSAIDs can cause stomach irritation, indigestion, ulcers, and gastrointestinal bleeding. They may also affect kidney function, cause fluid retention, increase blood pressure, and increase the risk of cardiovascular events in susceptible patients. The risk can increase with higher doses, prolonged treatment, older age, or certain underlying medical conditions. Before using Indomethacin Capsules IP 25mg, tell your healthcare professional if you have a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding, kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, asthma triggered by NSAIDs, or previous allergic reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs. Also inform your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements you take.
How to use
Take Indomethacin Capsules IP 25mg exactly according to the dose and duration prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the capsule whole with sufficient water. Do not crush, chew, open, or otherwise alter the capsule unless your healthcare professional specifically advises you to do so. Taking indomethacin with food or immediately after a meal may help reduce stomach irritation. Follow the administration instructions provided with your prescription. Take each dose at approximately the same time each day if regular treatment has been prescribed, unless your doctor gives different instructions. Do not take more than the prescribed dose. Higher doses do not necessarily provide faster relief and can significantly increase the risk of serious adverse effects. Avoid taking other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen, or aspirin for pain, unless your doctor specifically recommends the combination. Inform your doctor if you take blood thinners, corticosteroids, diuretics, blood-pressure medicines, lithium, methotrexate, or other regular medicines because clinically important interactions may occur. If you forget a dose, take it when you remember unless it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose. Never take two doses together to make up for a missed dose. Drink adequate fluids unless your healthcare professional has advised you to restrict fluid intake. Seek urgent medical attention if you develop severe stomach pain, black or bloody stools, vomiting blood, chest pain, difficulty breathing, facial swelling, or a severe skin reaction. Long-term indomethacin treatment may require medical monitoring, particularly for blood pressure, kidney function, gastrointestinal complications, and other risk factors. Tell your doctor if pain, swelling, or stiffness does not improve or becomes worse despite treatment. Do not continue using Indomethacin Capsules IP 25mg for longer than prescribed because prolonged NSAID exposure can increase the risk of serious complications.
