Medicine information
Uses & overview
SEIZMET GP 2 by Steris Healthcare brings together three complementary blood sugar-lowering agents in a single daily formulation: Glimepiride (2 mg), Metformin Hydrochloride Sustained Release (500 mg), and Pioglitazone (15 mg). This triple-action formulation targets type 2 diabetes across three distinct physiological pathways—stimulating natural insulin secretion, overcoming peripheral insulin resistance, and reducing excessive liver glucose output. Key Uses & Clinical Benefits: Triple-Action Glycemic Management: Delivers robust, multi-pathway regulation of fasting blood glucose, postprandial (post-meal) spikes, and long-term HbA1c levels. Stimulates Natural Insulin Release: Glimepiride (a second-generation sulfonylurea) acts directly on pancreatic beta-cells to trigger phase-specific insulin release in response to mealtime glucose. Reduces Hepatic Glucose Output: Metformin SR decreases glucose synthesis in the liver, lowers intestinal glucose absorption, and enhances cellular insulin sensitivity in muscle tissue. Enhances Insulin Sensitivity: Pioglitazone (a thiazolidinedione) acts as a PPAR-gamma agonist to increase insulin sensitivity in peripheral adipose and muscle tissues, promoting long-term cellular glucose uptake. Sustained-Release Comfort: The 500 mg Sustained Release (SR) Metformin matrix ensures steady drug release throughout the day while minimizing common stomach upset and nausea. How SEIZMET GP 2 Works: Glimepiride (2 mg): Binds to sulfonylurea receptors on pancreatic beta-cells to promote glucose-dependent insulin secretion. Metformin SR (500 mg): Activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in liver tissue to suppress gluconeogenesis and optimize insulin-mediated glucose uptake. Pioglitazone (15 mg): Targets nuclear PPAR-gamma receptors to enhance insulin sensitivity in adipose and peripheral muscular tissues.
How to use
Take 1 tablet of SEIZMET GP 2 daily with meals (preferably during or immediately after breakfast or the main meal of the day) or strictly as prescribed by your physician. Taking the medication with food helps minimize potential gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water—do not crush, chew, or break the tablet, as doing so disrupts the sustained-release matrix.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, light, and moisture. Store at a controlled room temperature below 30°C. Keep out of reach and sight of children.
