Uses & overview
ST-GLIPTIN M50/1000 by Steris Healthcare brings together two complementary blood sugar-lowering agents: Sitagliptin (50 mg) and Metformin Hydrochloride Sustained Release (1000 mg). By pairing a selective DPP-4 inhibitor with a biguanide, this dual-combination therapy targets type 2 diabetes through two distinct mechanisms—boosting glucose-dependent insulin secretion and improving peripheral insulin sensitivity. Key Uses & Clinical Benefits: Dual-Mechanism Glycemic Control: Effectively lowers both fasting and postprandial (post-meal) blood glucose levels, helping patients reach and maintain target HbA1c goals. Incretin Enhancement: Sitagliptin (a DPP-4 inhibitor) prolongs the active life of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), boosting natural insulin release in response to meals while suppressing excessive glucagon secretion. Reduces Hepatic Glucose Production: Metformin SR decreases glucose production in the liver, reduces intestinal glucose absorption, and enhances peripheral tissue sensitivity to insulin. Sustained-Release Convenience: The 1000 mg Sustained Release (SR) Metformin matrix ensures controlled drug delivery throughout the day, minimizing common gastrointestinal side effects like nausea and stomach upset. Low Risk of Hypoglycemia & Weight-Neutral Profile: Operates via glucose-dependent pathways, delivering effective glycemic management with a low risk of sugar crashes and no added body weight gain. How ST-GLIPTIN M50/1000 Works: Sitagliptin (50 mg): Prevents the enzymatic degradation of incretin hormones by DPP-4, increasing mealtime insulin production and curbing post-meal glucagon release. Metformin SR (1000 mg): Activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in liver tissue to suppress gluconeogenesis and optimize cellular response to circulating insulin.
How to use
Take 1 tablet of ST-GLIPTIN M50/1000 once or twice daily with meals (preferably with breakfast or evening meal) or as directed by your physician. Taking the medication with food helps reduce gastrointestinal discomfort associated with Metformin. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water—do not crush, chew, or break the tablet, as doing so disrupts the sustained-release delivery mechanism.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, light, and moisture. Store at a controlled room temperature below 30°C. Keep out of reach and sight of children.
