Uses & overview
Ultrasound Gel is a specially formulated coupling medium used during ultrasound examinations to improve contact between the transducer probe and the patient's skin. Air between the probe and the skin can interfere with ultrasound wave transmission. The gel fills these gaps, helping the waves travel effectively and supporting the production of clear diagnostic images. Ultrasound coupling gel is widely used in hospitals, radiology departments, diagnostic laboratories, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. Depending on the intended application and product specifications, it may be used for abdominal ultrasound, pregnancy scans, vascular imaging, musculoskeletal examinations, and other external ultrasound procedures. Special formulations may be required for particular medical procedures or equipment. When selecting ultrasound gel, healthcare professionals and medical procurement teams should consider its viscosity, water-based formulation, skin compatibility, ease of application, ease of removal, packaging size, and compatibility with the intended ultrasound equipment. Sterile gel may be required for certain invasive procedures or applications involving specific infection-control requirements.
How to use
Check the product: Verify that the ultrasound gel is intended for the planned examination and is compatible with the equipment. Prepare the skin: Ensure that the examination area is accessible and prepared according to the healthcare facility's procedure. Apply the gel: Dispense a sufficient amount of gel onto the skin or the probe as directed by the manufacturer. Position the probe: Place the ultrasound transducer against the gel-covered area to establish good contact and reduce air gaps. Perform the examination: Move the probe as required while ensuring adequate gel coverage for effective ultrasound transmission. Add gel when needed: Apply additional gel if necessary to maintain suitable coupling throughout the examination. Clean after use: Remove residual gel from the patient's skin and clean the ultrasound probe according to the equipment manufacturer's instructions. Prevent contamination: Do not touch the bottle opening against contaminated surfaces or reuse single-use containers contrary to their instructions. Follow sterile-use requirements: Use sterile ultrasound gel when required by the procedure, clinical guidelines, or infection-control protocols. Store correctly: Keep the container closed and follow the manufacturer's storage conditions and expiry guidance.
