Uses & overview
Roxithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic prescribed for the treatment of selected bacterial infections. It works by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis, which helps prevent susceptible bacteria from growing and multiplying. Depending on the diagnosis and local prescribing guidelines, doctors may prescribe Roxithromycin for certain respiratory tract infections, throat infections, skin infections, and soft tissue infections. This antibiotic is effective only against susceptible bacteria and does not treat viral illnesses such as influenza or the common cold. The appropriate dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, the patient's age, medical history, and other medicines being taken.
How to use
Follow the prescribed dosage: Take Roxithromycin according to your doctor's instructions. Do not change the dose or frequency without medical advice. Follow food instructions: Roxithromycin tablets are commonly taken on an empty stomach, often before meals. Check the specific product leaflet and follow your doctor's instructions. Take doses at consistent times: Maintain the recommended schedule to support consistent treatment and help you remember each dose. Swallow tablets as directed: Take the tablet with water. Do not crush or split it unless your pharmacist confirms that your particular formulation can be altered. Complete the prescribed course: Continue treatment for the recommended duration, even if you begin feeling better. Do not stop early unless your doctor advises you to do so. Manage missed doses carefully: Take a missed dose when remembered unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Follow your product instructions, and never double the dose. Check for medicine interactions: Inform your doctor about all prescription medicines, supplements, and herbal products you use, particularly medicines that may affect heart rhythm. Monitor side effects: Seek medical advice if diarrhoea is severe or persistent. Get urgent medical assistance for breathing difficulties, facial swelling, or a fast or irregular heartbeat.
