Medicine information
Uses & overview
Torsemide & Spironolactone is a combination diuretic medicine prescribed to help manage excess fluid accumulation in the body. It may be used in selected patients with conditions such as heart failure, edema, or other disorders where a doctor determines that both medicines are appropriate. The combination belongs to the diuretic category of cardiovascular medicines. Torsemide is a loop diuretic that acts on the kidneys to increase the removal of excess salt and water through urine. Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic and aldosterone antagonist that helps reduce sodium and water retention while limiting potassium loss. The two medicines work through different mechanisms to support fluid management. Possible side effects include increased urination, dizziness, dehydration, low blood pressure, and electrolyte imbalances. Spironolactone can increase potassium levels, while torsemide may affect sodium and potassium levels. Your doctor may recommend regular monitoring of kidney function, blood pressure, and blood electrolytes during treatment.
How to use
Follow the prescribed dose: Take the exact dose recommended by your healthcare professional. Do not increase, decrease, or stop the medicine without medical advice. Take it at the recommended time: This combination is often taken in the morning because torsemide increases urination. Follow your doctor's instructions, especially if multiple daily doses are prescribed. Swallow the tablet as directed: Take the medicine with water and follow the instructions supplied with your specific product. Do not crush or split the tablet unless your pharmacist confirms that it is appropriate. Manage missed doses carefully: If you forget a dose, follow the package leaflet or ask your pharmacist for advice. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed tablet. Monitor fluid balance: Follow your doctor's guidance on daily fluid intake and salt consumption. Do not deliberately restrict fluids or drink excessive amounts without medical advice. Check potassium intake: Spironolactone can increase potassium levels. Avoid potassium supplements and potassium-containing salt substitutes unless your doctor specifically recommends them. Attend regular blood tests: Your doctor may monitor kidney function, potassium, sodium, and other electrolytes to help prevent complications. Recognize possible side effects: Report severe dizziness, muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat, or signs of dehydration promptly. Seek urgent medical attention if you faint or experience severe symptoms. Inform your doctor about other medicines: Report all medicines you take, particularly ACE inhibitors, ARBs, other diuretics, potassium supplements, and anti-inflammatory painkillers.
